Adventurers Autumn Term 2008 ENCOUNTERS WITH THE KING Jesus only lived, in bodily form, on this earth for 33 years. His public ministry was only 3 years long. Yet no one has had a greater impact on the world than the Son of God who became man. This term we are looking at some of the people who met Jesus, what they learnt and how an encounter with the King changed them forever! The Word became a human being and lived here with us. We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. From him all kindness and all the truth of God have come down to us. (John 1:14) We will be looking at the encounters of the disciples, Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, a women caught in sin, Lazarus and a man who was born blind. We will talk about following Jesus, embarrassment, worship – Jesus knows everything about us, Jesus takes what is bad and gives what is good, Jesus can do anything and experience is better than knowledge. Come in and see how we do this! Parents are always very welcome. Our action song is “Hosanna to the King” from the Vineyard “Fruit of the Spirit” album. This and many other children’s CDs, books and presents can be bought at The Bible Outlet, Wright Street in Hull, Our Lady’s Bookshop (now stocking a wider range of goods), in Northgate, Hessle and online. WOW! Over the last year we collected £270 for Grassroots in Tanzania. They have told us that Rosie the pregnant cow will be living in Swaya in the Mbeya region. She will join a small heard so she won’t be lonely. Once her calf is born and weaned, Rosie’s milk will go towards supplying milk to the 1000+ children they provide milk for daily. They say “Thank you, this is a wonderful gift to the children of Tanzania.” This year we are collecting for Riders for Health, a charity who aims to distribute health care throughout the African continent by motorbikes. It began when their founder members visited African countries and saw how quickly and needlessly vehicles were failing in health delivery. Roads are often in a bad state or non-existent. Thousands of children die every year of easily preventable diseases such as measles simply because the community health workers cannot reach them. Just one reliable, safe, fully functioning motorcycle for just one nurse can often mean that more than 20,000 people can be reached time and time again. Online at www.riders.org, registered charity number 1054565. ADVENTURERS DATES:- September 7 & 21 October 5 & 19 November 16 December 7 There will be activities for children on November 2. Adventurers starts at 10.30am (to give parents time to get into church for the 10.45am service). We aim to finish at 12 – please come into the Family Centre to collect your child. For their safety we don’t let them out without you! Details of all the services, children’s activities and special services for Christmas can be found in our Grapevine magazine.
